HI RIDE FOR CANCER (par Iain Forbes - United kingdom)

21 janvier 2009

Hi - My name is Iain Forbes and I am a 65 year old retired Sales Director. In September of 2007 I and a colleague, Harald Berg (44) who had been diagnosed as termianally ill with cancer decided to undertake a 2000 kilometer bike ride to raise funds for cancer research charities across Europe. Until that time I had never been a serious cyclist. My local cycle dealer Gilles of Carterton, England recommended a Giant SCR2 which I bought and started preparing for the event. On the 2nd of May 2008 I sent off from Gothenburg, Sweden and cycled down through Sweden heading for Witney, Oxfordshire via Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and into the UK completing the ride on 7th June. The final distance covered was 2067 kilometers. Unfortunately Harald dies two weeks before we were due to set off. Four days before his 45th birthday. To date the total amount raised for caner charites is just short of £50K. You can find out more about the ride by visiting www.hirideforcancer.com Special thanks are due to the staff at Giles, Carterton for help in supporting a novice rider in untertaking such an adventure and to Giant UK who provided me with some Giant logo clothing. Since returning I have continued to cycle and recently purchased a new Giant SCRc2 from Giles of course. I hope my story, if not successful in your competition, helps to inspire others of my age to get off their "butts" and on to a cycle.
