Downhill cycling in Wales, Spring 2007
Downhill cycling in Wales, Spring 2007 (by Tariq Abdulla - United kingdom)
Imagine the feeling: you are pedalling up the steepest hill in Wales, on a traffic-free bicycle track. Your legs are starting to strain as you inch upwards in the lowest gear. Finally, you reach the top, and you can see for miles around: a beautiful panorama of rolling green hills and woodland, grey slate cliffs, purple foxtrots and a bright blue sky. You wipe the sweat of your forehead, and take a few minutes to appreciate the smells of the countryside and the cool spring breeze. And you look down the hill to see a track that seems to slope away gently forever, meandering like a stream. Some sections of the slope are gentle enough to allow you to look around and take in the sunshine; some are steep enough to give you a true adrenaline rush; it feels like you are flying! Sheep look up with puzzled expressions as you zip past. I made this video with a simple homemade method of mounting my camera to my handlebars: a metal clip, and a screw the same size as a tripod screw. For full details of the 70km circular day route, see here: http://www.routeyou.com/route/view/15956/cycling-route-aberdyfi-llwyngwril-dolgellau-corris-machynlleth-aberdyfi.en From the elevation profile, it is very easy to see which hill this video was taken on!
